September Roundup
September was full of important conversations, big milestones, and momentum Alabama is carrying into fall. Here is a look back at what we covered this month:
The month opened with National Recovery Month, and we used it to show what recovery, mental illness, and substance use actually look like here in Alabama, not the version stigma tends to attach to them.
Over four weeks we tackled some of the biggest misconceptions head on: what recovery really looks like day to day, the myth that people with mental illness are dangerous, peer support as a legitimate, evidence-based part of the care continuum, and medication-assisted treatment.
We marked 988 Day and World Suicide Prevention Day, and spent a full week thanking our Direct Support Professionals, the workforce that makes community-based care possible day to day across Alabama.
Outside of our content calendar, it was a big month in its own right. Our member organizations gathered for ACBH's annual beach meeting, and our new website officially launched, giving our community an easier way to find a member provider close to home and learn about the work we do statewide.
None of this slows down heading into fall. October brings Mental Illness Awareness Week, OCD Awareness Week, and ADHD Awareness Month, and we will keep building toward the legislative session, moving from awareness into advocacy on behalf of the Alabamians our member providers serve every day. There is a lot more ahead, so follow along.
Catch up on everything we shared this month.
